My name's Michelle, I'm a freelance writer and film critic based in Toronto.
My writing and criticism focuses on a diverse array of Canadian cinema, covering different topics, genres, and languages. I am particularly interested in films by LGBTQ+ directors, as well as debut features and films not in the English language. My writing has appeared in the Toronto Star, The Walrus, Teen Vogue, Xtra, Bright Wall/Dark Room, and Little White Lies, among other publications.
I completed an MA in Education in the Field of Applied Linguistics at Western University, where I studied best practices for incorporating cinema into educational settings.
In 2023, I was named the Telefilm Canada Emerging Film Critic by the Toronto Film Critics Association.
The most important thing to know about me is that my two favourite albums are Crack-Up by Fleet Foxes and Ys by Joanna Newsom.
